The MBCC Story
In February 2014 two first year university students received their news writing assignment: find your own story and write a news article. Being creatives they naturally went into overdive as to all the ways they could present this and an A3 home generated, one page newspaper format document was created called The Narangba Bulletin (the creatives lived in Narangba).
About four weeks later, as they joked openly to many about this, there was amazing support for the concept. A few more creative students from different backgrounds – social media and film/TV - wanted to make it happen and we formed a team. We decided on what we felt had to be addressed : the showcasing of new creatives. So we set to work and created a 36 page, A4, glossy magazine named The Narangba Voice!
Three magazines later we started to get phone calls from other local magazines in the surrounding areas asking us to provide content for them. Then the ultimate question arose! We now had almost 15 in our team. We were very proud of our Narangba Voice Baby. But were we about creating a magazine or about showcasing new talent? Well you can easily guess which one we chose!
So we shelved The Narangba Voice and sent all the articles we would normally produce to an online publisher – My Town Magazine. Then we set to work creating MBCC Inc – a not for profit that showcases and connects emerging creatives from all creative backgrounds and is run by creatives for creatives.
The team grows every day. The success and support is amazing and humbling. And by bringing in team members who have past successful careers in recruitment, finance, governance and education we are pleased to be building what we firmly believe will be the largest creative collaborative group that represents the Creative community.
So as we all work to our capacity to break the freeconomy mindset towards emerging creatives, we focus on
three things: • Making Money • Having Fun • Changing the World!
